I'm pretty certain you're under-estimating the effort required to
explain the details of how FlightGear works. The time to pursue this
task is a multiple of a man-week. How would you expect a volunteer
FlightGear developer to dedicate that much of his precious spare time ?

Digging into an OpenSource software project works the other way: Read,
read, try out, read, check, read ....  and if you don't understand a
particular item, then ask precisely about that one. This rule is almost
universal in OpenSource land.
