Though I myself have an independent scenery project, I whole heartedly
support the global scenery project. Without it, and all your hard work
on it over the years, flightgear scenery would be a mere shadow of
what it is today. I hope then, after a break and some rest, that you
will regain your passion and motivation for the project and find a way
to continue on with it..even if in a reduced capacity.

I say give no thought to people creating external scenery. As far as I
have seen none of it was created out of spite towards the global
scenery database, nor do I recall any of its authors saying there
motivation for creating it was because they disagree with the global
scenery project or have any ill will towards it. In fact the only
reason I see that much of it exists is out of necessity..either due to
past license issues with data...or now as a temporary measure while we
wait for tools to stable up and a new global scenery generated with
that data. Of course there are a few oddball projects about where
people create 'exlusive' scenery objects or airports or
whatever...which I don't care for personally...but those are the
exception not the norm.

I doubt anyone would disagree that the global scenery is by far the
most important scenery project, without which fgfs scenery would be in
a much worse state. However I don't believe the official global
scenery project and independent scenery projects are mutually
exclusive. There is a time and place for both in my opinion.

best wishes..cheers
