Glad you like it. It got stuck under a bunch of other stuff and forgotten about more than anything else. However, one reason I didn't spend more time on it was that it didn't seem particularly useful from a sim perspective. If found that to see the effect at reason (<30kt) winds you either need to be sitting on the ground or at quite low altitude when your attention is elsewhere. Also, the only time I recall seeing trees moving when flying myself was during a circuit to land at the end of a cross-country flight when the wind had picked up a lot and we wanted to get on the ground ASAP. On this particular leg I was doing comms/nav so had a bit of time to look around. The pilot had the bar in a death-grip and was concentrating very hard on keeping us right-side up, and I'm pretty sure he didn't notice any tree movements :) That said, I'm very happy for this to be added. it is quite a neat effect. > I've been looking out of the window, timing the movement of trees in our > forest, and I think the time constant should rather be 1.7-2.0 and the > amplitude about 2.5 times as large - all of which makes it more pronounced. > Then I cooked myself a nice tropical storm and went in low level in rain over > treetops - very very nice. The constants were just guesses based on an evenings work with no direct observation of reality. However bear in mind that the same constants would be used for both oaks and conifers, which I'd expect to move different amounts. > I think I'll be putting this in at high quality and see if I can't get some > wind movement of the hires noise to match the impression... Someone contacted me off-list to mention that this is a fairly well known problem and that shrinking the UV mapping slightly (which I'll need to do in the C-code) and ensuring a nice transparent border around all the trees is the normal way to address this. So, I don't think there's anything you or Vivian need to do here. I just need to spend an hour or so adjusting all the textures. I'll also write some better documentation on creating tree textures so scenery modelers can created them right first time. -Stuart ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Try New Relic Now & We'll Send You this Cool Shirt New Relic is the only SaaS-based application performance monitoring service that delivers powerful full stack analytics.
