2 days ago I installed the latest FG from the website on my brothers Dell running a P4, NVIDIA Geforce card, onboard sound and had the same errors. the spash screen would come up then disappear. I discovered though that choosiing the Cessna 172 (not the 2D or hi-res) would get me in the cockpit at the airport. All the airports would come up correctly and I could fly the aircraft normally.
Just these 2 problems were encountered in the Cessna scenariao:
1 - It was like flying in a spotlight. at Noon, the scenery was there and moved normally but it was a low light like in evening and all terrrain around the horizon was dark, mountains, ocean, anything, any direction, was dark. If I changed the time of day, I could see a small change in light level in the cockpit but the surrounding terrain was dark at around the horizon.
2 - the DME was not accurate. the ADF, for example, correcly lead me to the beacon, but the DME distances were way off.
No other aircraft/runway selection allowed me to get to the cockpit.

I have a Toshiba Tecra M1 running Windows XP Professional.
Your assistance would be most helpful to get this up and running.
