FWIW, I've been compiling FGFS OK on plain Cygwin for years now, but I've
never got either of the above MingW approaches to work, despite trying for
a while.  However, whenever I install Cygwin on a new computer and try to
compile the FGFS tree, I'm reminded that there's a lot of tricky gotchas
which I've forgotten about, and if they aren't in the docs then it's no
wonder we have so many new users / potential developers struggling to get
started.
