I'm not a Windows user myself but I've recently been testing FG CVS on a box I
have access to with Cygwin now and again just to check for build problems, so
hopefully I can pass on a few wee notes here that might help.

I personally haven't heard of anyone successfully using freeglut-2.4 (please
shout if you are) with FG on any platform, but on Cygwin at least, plain old
glut from the cygwin installer is a relatively pain-free choice.

Never got OpenAL to build properly on Cygwin - as described elsewhere in this
thread, a pre-compiled binary is currently the way to go.

I'd forget about it, as noted above.

So, with glut from the cygwin installer and an OpenAL binary, I think you
should be pretty much set; I used plib from CVS, but I think 1.8.4 ought to
work.

And If you're going to the bother of building FG from source, personally I
can't see many reasons to build 0.9.8 - the CVS tree needs testing,
particularly on less-used but important platforms like Cygwin.

If / when you reach the next sticking point, please ask again here or on the
IRC channel.

Cheers,
AJ
