Just passing on what worked for me. I suggested this to a previous mailer
who was having similar problems and it worked for him too.
I know that after my kids have been on the computer, I end up with a process
called "msnappmnu", this really knocks FG frame rate around even though the
'net isn't connected and MSN messenger isn't open.
XP might be more immune to this problem since is uses pre-emptive
multitasking rather than 98SE's cooperative multitasking.
Just passing on what worked for me... take it or leave it....I certainly
don't mean to jeopardise the stability of anothers PC, when sometimes when
you've run out of ideas you're willing to try anything and really the worst
is going to do is force a reboot, yeh?

Hi Dene,
I've got to say that telling someone to 'start killing processes'
on their win box isn't a good idea. Most processes on a
computer will just be sitting there waiting for something to
respond to - if there's nothing for them to do they won't be
using any significant cpu time. There's also a good chance that
if they haven't had much to do for a while they'll be rolled out
into VM as well, and so won't be holding on to lots of your real
ram.
If the problem was one of intermittent pauses or
slow-downs /then/ it might be worth looking at what else is
running on your system but if,as seems to be the case here, the
low frame-rate is constant then I think we're looking at a lack
of h/w OpenGL acceleration.
