This could be the problem.  I have a new intel iMac on the way, so maybe that will take care of it.
 
Of course, now I could also run the windows version natively on my iMac:

I didn't make the 0.9.9 image (Arthur Wiebe did), but I'm pretty sure 
it worked for me when I last tried it. Arthur does state on the 
macflightgear page that it's for 10.4.0 only, and it's just possible 
he used a DMG format that only works on 10.4.

The pre-release version of 0.9.10 I linked to in my original email 
definitely does open and run correctly on 10.3.9, assuming you also 
download the 0.9.10 base package - I have tested exactly this 
configuration today and it worked without a hitch. Of course a 1Ghz 
emac is unlikely to perform very well, it's only got a Geforce 4MX as 
I recall, and they have very slow memory buses too. They weren't 
designed for intensive 3D applications!
