Always with fluxbox window manager and with Nvidia drivers a least
as far back as (?) 7174; now at 8756.
These lockups _used_ to occur frequently and always seemed to go away
after a thorough rebuild. They've _always_ happened not after a long
cooking but during startup when the cpu temp is about 46C, definitely
more likely to happen with lots of keyboard activity eg switching desktops
and zooming out Atlas to ludicrous speed. Have you noticed that fgfs
startup is different, restarting repeatedly in the same X session,
compared to straight after a restart ? Have you tried mercilessly
resizing the fgfs window while the splash screen is active ?
I still suspect some combination of X Windows and Nvidia drivers
during the 'grab lots of memory' phase ..
