Good thing I'm not in China, and plan never to go there if I can avoid it.

I wasn't asking for secret information. I basically asked for publicly
available information about something that is an obvious target visible
from 10 miles away (a federal interstate runs 10 miles from it, and a
national highway runs right through it). Hiding accurate geopositional
data isn't going to stop someone with the ability to knock down a pylon
if they can just walk up to it.

After I was told no, I figured just to use information from the FAA
obstruction database. It's technically public domain information, as it
comes from the US gov't. To be honest, I was hoping that the fellow
would've pointed me at some sort of public domain data that I could use.
I didn't need high resolution data, either, just enough to place things
in the scenery.

I don't mind asking for information nicely, and I'll accept no for an
answer, but when someone reports it to the police, that's almost
parallel to calling my request a crime. To be honest, security is a good
thing, but I'll sacrifice a little security if the end result is that my
neighbor isn't suspicious of my every move. This is why I try to avoid
the cities anyway. Too many people, kind of hard to keep track of
intentions.

As a final aside, would any of the admins to the project like to lend
some advice or aid on this? Perhaps someone could contact the person I
did and reiterate what this project is, and that it's an affront to
human decency to behave as if we were in 1984. I'm not sure if I
recommend this, as this guy is probably quite anal, and for all I know
would report anyone if they mentioned anything about flight simulation.
I don't know. Any thoughts from those who have been there?
