I find I have to introduce flaps notch by notch on the 747, ensuring I bleed off as much speed as I can before selecting the next notch...it pays to begin your slowdown well out from the runway. The 747 version I have doesn't have speedbrakes which makes it trickier to balance the attitude of the jet when the flaps are opening...it has a tendency to lift if you're carrying too much airspeed. Does the cvs 747 have the speedbrakes? The 737 and 777 are much easier to slow...ctrl-b to activate speedbrakes (you'll see them rise up on the top of the wings) then apply flaps notch by notch (watch your attitude, you can still lift too much if you put too much flap out at too high a speed, even with speedbrakes)...its not the controlled speedbrake operation of a real jet, but its better than nothing! Only the 777 has reverse thrust, of the big heavies I think, but its reversors are animated (cool!)...
