I was having a similar problem.  After changing some kernel settings it seems 
to have gone away.  Specifically I turned off NUMA and all kernel preemption 
(preemption now has "server" settings).   This also made my machine more 
stable and it is like a rock now.  I have not noticed that the machine is in 
any way less responsive with these settings.
