Is it accurate enough for landings?

I'm wondering whether it would be useful as an input device for
installations where a mechanical input device is likely to get broken.

I'm working on two FG projects right now:
1) Using FG in a local flight museum for interactive displays.
2) Building a flex-wing microlight training device.

A common theme for them both is creating robust input devices.

I was chatting to some of the museum staff who have experience with
interactive displays. In one science display they were using a hand-driven
water pump to drive a water wheel. Despite being a heavy duty piece of kit
designed for boats and simply consisting of a lever and bellows, it was
broken within days of the display opening. The lesson seemed to be "build
it and they will break it".

For the museum project it seems that one can either try to build something
that excedes the ability of children to break it, or simply bulk buy large
numbers of (very) cheap joysticks and include the replacement in running
costs. The problem is that both approaches could be quite expensive. Does
anyone have any suggestions/experience with this?

For the flex-wing microlight, the control-bar is quite different from a
normal joystick, so I was intending to build a custom control using a USB
joystick controller.

In both cases, using a wii-mote as the controller is intriguing as (I
assume) it has no moving parts and therefore should be more robust than a
mechanical solution.

Any thoughts ?
