Hans,

If you're on Linux or have CygWin, use the program "gzip".  If you're
using windows, try Total Commander ( http://www.ghisler.com/ ).  Total
Commander runs under wine on Linux, too.

I know in flightgear apt.dat doesn't need to be compressed, not sure
about fgsd.

Also, last time I checked SceneryDesigner didn't support lights for
night in the generated airports...
