I'm just setting up FlightGear 0.9.10 (too many pieces and dependencies with the source). I had a very old version of FGFS on the last OS on this system, same hardware, and usually got 20 FPS, with an occasional dip to 10-12 when looking at an entire city from altitude. I have a 1.7 GHz Pentium 4 CPU, 768 MB ram, and an Nvidia GeForce4 MX 440 graphics board. glxgears gives 2005 FPS in the default small window (640 x 480?) and 203 FPS in full screen (1280x1024). FGFS gives 4-6 FPS to my eye (can't see how to get the FPS displayed, the HUD used to give me that on the old program.) The FPS seems to be about the same in either the default screen (800 x 600?) or full screen. I have loaded the Nvidia propretary driver - the system is unstable without that. My os is CentOS 5 (based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux).
Any suggestions? Thanks very much!
