But I, too, am running the tail-skid of computers around here. I get what I get from trades, risking broken/smoking parts and the kindness of strangers.
The P3 might not be as much a problem as the video card; FG is very visually oriented. That P4 should be more than enough; try to get the best card you can afford to fit the AGP (or hope against hope) PCI Express card that comes on it. And you might lean the direction of Nvidia; that's a card that can work in both environments. You'd be surprised what you can do when you're not swatting bugs. Seriously; I started in CP/M, then DOS, then all the Windows versions. After setting it up configuring FG the way I like it, I'll never have to take a machine in to get a flush-n-fill. And it still has everything else I need like OpenOffice and all that. Should you get interested, try out Ubuntu's Karmic. (9.10) it's still new, so the repos are really busy. But it's so simple; so uncomplicated- so soild. And it does a great job of running FG!
