Everyone's been looking at different and complicated ways of doing the Right Thing (tm) and Matt just tweaks the fl_utf8len() error return to make it a non-error return. Lateral thinking :-) Plus the simple solution to partial UTF-8 sequences at the end of a read buffer - just read the whole file in one slurp! LOL. Seriously though, this change does mean that test/editor doesn't hang or crash or assert when reading misc/cp1252.txt so I suppose I have to admit that it's "solved" as far as getting fltk-1.3.0 out of the door. [It would have been useful to display ? of upside-down ? or something to show that there were actually characters there, because moving the cursor over the 0x80-0x9F characters with the cursor keys doesn't give much feedback that there's actually something happening, but that can now be a feature request for 1.3.1] So as far as I'm concerned, you can close this one.
