Is there actually a "dirty" or "modified" flag set when changes are made to the text in Fl_Text_{Buffer,Display,Editor} ? If there is, it's not obvious. Adding such a flag could be the first step here, as it would allow the editor (or whatever called inserfile) to check whether the text was modified and warn the user before real editing begins...
