I don't read in forums. They are annoying, slow, inefficient, and
plastered with animated gif. You can't read them offline and there is
no way in hell you can read them on a mobile device. Their text
editors suck, they don't allow me to have an overview over all forums
(fori?) that I regularly read, and they don't signal me when there is
a new message (unless I am willing to keep 20 browser windows with
beforementioned animated advertising gifs open).
If FLTK had no news server and no mailing list, but only a forum, I'd
stop developing it because I would spend half the day fiddeling with
Java Script and ActiveX plugins (which don't run here anyways).
I highly recommend Mozilla Thunderbird if you read text newsgroups
only. Go to <http://www.mozila.com/>, download Thunderbird for your
platform and enter "news.easysw.com" as the server. Then subscribe to
whichever groups you are interested in and start reading. I'd be very
surprised if you still prefer a Forum after a few week of learning
the Thunderbird shortcuts. Now start searching the thousands of
newsgroups on all the other servers, and you will find a whole new
way of communication.

PS: maybe this needs to be communicated better on the FLTK website?!
