Hello Mr McCheese (you win this years best username by the way) I'm not sure if anyone mentioned but you can update on a column other than ObjectID if you have one.
There is a parameter called GEODB_UPDATE_KEY_COLUMNS that allows the user to select which column to use instead of being forced to use OBJECTID. You can use this to specify more than one column. Not sure if this is exposed anywhere in the GUI - if not you'll need to edit the workspace header (tools->edit header) to add it.
