Upgrading FMP7 on an XP box compared to a Mac

Please help this confused Mac user understand why upgrading FMP7 on XP 
seems so much more difficult that upgrading on a Mac!  So, need to run 
FMD v 3 update on a Mac?  Easy!  Download it and run it.  On XP?  
Download, start the update, then go find the initial CD install disc, 
load it into the computer.... AAARRGGGH!

Now, I'm a Mac guy, and maybe this is my stupidity at using windows, 
not the XP itself....
