How am I going to trigger this script as there is no way of triggering a script after exiting a field? I don't want to use Buttons to run a script.

Hi Charu

This tool is conceptually quite different by comprising calc'fields and field level validations, which thins out slightly in the demand for scripting ...further more is it posible to avoid the join table in many2many relations if you wish, by employing multilinekeys either made by calcfields or scripts. The issue you're facing by insisting on scripts triggered on exit or entry etc. creates a whole bunch of rollback issues that you probably either ignore or are used to implement in the solutions you provide.

Since this tool stems from a subsidiary of Apple is it likely to expect that some of thier interface rules might have found their way into our thingy. Here comes one particular this issue up ...Regretability!!! Third party plugins do exist that does exactly what you and others have requested as long as Filemaker has been around ...but I'd suggest you approach these issues with the uniqueness actually availiable in calcfields ....in either the major overhaul repeating fields have undergone or even better with custom functions ability to define them recursively.

It's her important to stress that the use of repeating field never ever should break 1NF - but only to be utilized as a measure for conveying a realtional key. 2NF issues are with this tool likely to be handled by unstored calcfields to avoid updating problems, which you probably are used to handle via scripts.

But before I gets too eagerly involved, might the right question be, what is the scripted task you would like to perform without BUTTONS??????
I've mentioned:
1) the use of unstored calcfield for functional dependencies which falls under 2NF.
2) Field level validations.
3) Multilinekeys that prevents batchcreation of records in join tables belongning to many2many relations.
4) Particular Apple interface rules that by and large dictates the use of buttons due to a metaphor'ish interface concept.
