There is a new virus, named "Badtrans.B," first discovered on Nov. 24, that is making the rounds. It has already infected the computer of at least 1 HelpNet member, as well as the computers of other people I know in the Bangor area. Make sure your antivirus programs' virus definitions are up to date. If you are not using an antivirus program, what are you waiting for?
Badtrans is another one of those self-mailing viruses. According to Symantec's description, it also logs keystrokes, so it seems like it could be used to steal sensitive information. It will come as an E-mail, quite possibly from someone you know, with an attached file. One way to protect yourself is never to open any file attachments that you are not expecting, or that have names different form what you expect. According to Symantec: "This worm arrives as an email with one of several attachment names and a combination of two appended extensions. The list of possible file names is: HUMOR DOCS S3MSONG ME_NUDE CARD SEARCHURL YOU_ARE_FAT! NEWS_DOC IMAGES PICS The first extension that is appended to the file name is one of the following: .DOC .MP3 .ZIP The second extension that is appended to the file name is one of the following: .pif .scr" There is more information at <http:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Jon Jonathan Falk Pine Tree Folk School RR 2, Box 7162 Carmel, ME 04419 (207)848-2433 <http://www.ptfolkschool.org> **Folkschool-list archives are at: <http://www.mint.net/folkschool/helpnet/archives.htm> Sponsored by Pine Tree Folk School ==^================================================================ This email was sent to: [email protected] EASY UNSUBSCRIBE click here: http://topica.com/u/?a84vzQ.a9gqS3 Or send an email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] T O P I C A -- Register now to manage your mail! http://www.topica.com/partner/tag02/register ==^================================================================
