The next edition of Fedora font packaging guidelines will forbid packaging of
bitmap fonts in non-opentype format for this reason

(You need the Asciidoctor.js Live Preview extention to see a pretty-formatted
version of the guidelines)

 Fedora packaging guidelines have been asking font packagers and authors to
convert to OpenType for more than a decade, so the only change is that SHOULD
becomes a MUST

(The harfbuzz-ng & pango raodmap were defined circa 2006 in a series of Free
Desktop text summits, getting them finaly done should not surprise anyone)
