Keith, the subtleness of your hints is not improving ;-)
I actually have started working on such a beast (a couple of months
ago), but then other things came up, and it's not ready for sharing.
I'm a wee bit busy right now (or else I wouldn't be at the computer at
this time -- it's 11pm over here). And when I'm done with Real Work,
my priority is to fix the known bug in the FreeType 2 backend so we
can get rid of FreeType 1. (Thanks to the friendly folks at SuSE, by
the way, for providing me with a useful bug report.)
I estimate the remaining work at one afternoon, but I really don't
know when I'll have said afternoon to devote to it; probably not
before ten days or so. If anyone wants to take over before then, drop
me a note, and I'll pass you what I have.
