I'm still not getting anything close to what you claim:
wc -c luRS??.pcf : 509624
wc -c luRS??.pcf.gz : 99842
luR.ttf : 144404
I may be doing something wrong like failing to do the right cropping.
It's difficult to check because the generated TTFs are not quite
complete yet, so you cannot look at them with the available tools.

The TTF spec doesn't document either. I'll have a look in the OTF
spec and the GX documentation (if I can still find it).
Do you know what is implemented by FreeType 2?
