You cannot force a number for subvendor ID either, since there are "certification authorities" that require this to differentiate various vendor implementations when there is a distinction. Vndor/Device/Rev ID's are all device vendor specific, so you are really only left with Class code/programming interface, plus putting a Spec-ID field into the memory-mapped space.
