Well, another method is data recovery, using software or a data recovery
service.  Data recovery software, such as Ontrack's EasyRecovery, can handle
logical problems if the drive is still working.  EasyRecovery doesn't fix
the MBR; instead, it analyzes the partition and copies off any files found
to other media.  If the drive has mechanical or electrical problems, you can
try sending the drive to a lab for data recovery service.
