Hi All

Thanks for your answers, it let me get some overall idea of what's possible or not.

Hi Jim

I can promise I don't have any Nostradamus prediction for ATA8 :-)
I just consider the evolution of SATA hard disk drives present on the market today: There are SATA I drives, SATA I with NCQ (Seagate brand), and SATA II all having NCQ support (Hitachi, ...) I just guess NCQ is something to come with important probabilities that's all. I was looking for NCQ basic support and information, and found some kind people that gave me this support. I'm just very sorry if my question could make you think I wanted ATA forum to do something they don't want in the near future, it is not my will.

Where do you get the idea that "NCQ is to be part of ATA8" ?

Negotiations between T13 and SATA-IO are far from over.

Please wait until the dust settles before getting notions like this.

Thank You !!!

It seems NCQ is to be part of ATA8, and will need a lot of discussions
to be standardized by T13, but can somebody already bring me the
information:
Is there any hardware requirement for Native Command Queuing support on
SATA 1.0 controller ? or can this be managed by pure firmware ?
(Is it possible to use a NCQ capable drive, labelled SATA I or SATA II
in PC world, with a standard SATA I hardware controller just by adding
firmware)

Thanks
