It is good practise to place "no ERC directives" on unused pins anyway,
even if they are defined as "passive".

I recall similar effects; could well be you are right, although I am not
sure. A hidden pin always connects to the net the name of which it carries,
as long as it is hidden. If you unhide the pins, you can connect them to
any net you like without caring about the pin name. Maybe the effect shows
up only if the hidden pin is unnamed ??
