Yes, I agree, this is my preferred behaviour, and has been the case since at
least Win 3.0. However, this behaviour is broken by Microsoft in their own
Explorer, the LEFT pane of which conforms to the *single-click* to open
paradigm, which is the SAME behaviour exhibited by Protel. The only
difference between Protel and Explorer in this respect is that Protel shows
the files in the left-hand pane (the tree-view pane). 

In this respect, I think Protel is correct. The main reason I think this is
that if it were not so, the highlighted file in the tree view would not
necessarily be the file being edited. This can have a very bad outcome if
you have more than one file with the same name, especially if they are very
similar and are also both open.
