Unfortunately, it's quite easy to have the highlighted file NOT being the one edited
-- simply do a SLOW single click on some other document (or folder). It is 'selected'
but not opened. If you then click back in the currently open document window, the
highlighting does not move to the name of the edited document, but remains on the
last-selected document (or folder). In this case, Protel does not even follow the
Windows Explorer left-pane paradigm.

Yes, I agree, this is my preferred behaviour, and has been the case since at
least Win 3.0. However, this behaviour is broken by Microsoft in their own
Explorer, the LEFT pane of which conforms to the *single-click* to open
paradigm, which is the SAME behaviour exhibited by Protel. The only
difference between Protel and Explorer in this respect is that Protel shows
the files in the left-hand pane (the tree-view pane).

In this respect, I think Protel is correct. The main reason I think this is
that if it were not so, the highlighted file in the tree view would not
necessarily be the file being edited. This can have a very bad outcome if
you have more than one file with the same name, especially if they are very
similar and are also both open.

Cheers,
MvdW
