Wanted to get your opinion on the translator....how accurate was it on large
designs, do you have a good confidence level with the translation?
I am asking because, I have taken over as dept head for a design group which
had a legacy of PADS files dating from 91- 98. They still make some of the
products but as we upgrade designs or simply cant find Gerber files, I would
like to import them into Protel and generate gerbers. Currently we are
being held hostage buy several board houses who have our gerbers on record.
Did you have any way of verification from one program to the other?
My other worthless opinion:
I meet with DILBERT's boss all the time. One manager I know refused to try
the Protel demo "because non of the other guys in the IPC designers group
used it". ( I would have fired him if he worked for me and gave me that
answer) At a meeting several months later he introduced me to his
CADENCE/SYSTEM adminstrator who was going to have them up and running in a
few more weeks. Hold the phone....He can afford downtime of a few weeks
to load software..... I hate that mentallity, to be good software, I need a
system adminstrator, that its a good sales pitch for insecure IT personel.
With Protel . you load the progam, learn some keystrokes which are
intuitiive if you already know how to design then go to work. You may not
be a power user but at least you are up and running over a cup of coffee.
Keep me going, I just had my first cup of coffee.
