One more opinion to Protel vs. PCAD
First a little History of myself
We where Using PCAD as it was PCAD until 1998, me not as much as my
workmate next to me. In 1998 he looked for an alternativ Tool and
desidet to use Protel. So I know both a little.
For me PCAD is a tool where you are able to do realy difficult PCBs.
Youve got a lot off Design-Layers wich you can merge to one GerberFile
or handle like You want. So at Example the Problem Dwight Harm wrote
about (Soldermask hides) wouldnt happen with PCAD because its an Layer
you have to design separate in your Footprint. But, as far as I know,
you have to design it *separate* ! No global Attributs on your PCB but
an single Layer in *every* footprint.
Even the aktuell discused Problem of David Want (Schematic Pin
annotation) is easy to handle in PCAD. But the last thing I know was
that you have to give *every* discription of your symbol an location and
there was no helpful tool like a wizzard to do this.
So, when we changed to Protel, I found some features that I missed but o
lot off features that I was longing for in PCAD.
My opinion is:
PCAD is a mighty tool, but complicate to handle.
Protel is almost as mighty as, (<- sorry for my terrible english)
but mighty easy.
