Hey guys,
Good to see everyone excited about starting a campaign at school
level. Just to inform, I want to say that IOE FOSS community alongwith ACEN
(Association of Computer Engineers in Nepal) has already conducted such
awareness programme in several schools in the valley. I guess, it must have
been just 2 weeks when we conducted such programme in Brihaspati School,
Naxal.
But the problem i guess is the school syllabus itself, which is
Windows-based. The government is not going to change the syllabus until we
show them some successful model.
I think we need to design a syllabus based on FOSS which should meet
all the requirements of the present syllabus like QBASIC, HTML,
wordprocessing, spreadsheet, etc etc. We will have to find some schools who
can implement them.
We, at IOE, have started a wiki for that. But, because of the ongoing
exams haven't been able to do much on that. I can't remember the link to the
wiki right now. Will post it later. Hope everyone's contribution will help
leap a few steps further in this effort.
