I assume you mean the risk of enabling the RSS feed. I
just looked and don't see a way to disable the RSS. Nor
do I see any documentation describing how it works, in
particular, how it is affected by the login state.

The problem is that if you require logins to see pages, then you also require logins to see the RSS feeds.

If I make the timeline accessible to logged in users, then the timeline.rss is also only accessible to logged in users.

So you need an RSS to email script or service that can login to the Fossil site.
