Peter,
Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure I catch your meaning, though. The
first appendix in the book is fine.
We do use Numeric chapter numbering for the appendixes. For our *second*
appendix in the book, which has the title "Appendix B:",
The Chapter heading autonumber format for the Appendix is:
A:Appendix <A+>:\sn
<A+> is paragraph-based autonumbering. <$chapnum> is chapter-based.
Our pagination for this appendix is set to:
Chapter:
Continue Numbering from previous file
Format: Numeric (14)
This is correct, but it ignores paragraph-based autonumbering.
But, the unruly table heading autonumber format
F:Figure <$chapnum>-<n=1>:\sn
This is correct; it displays the correct current chapter number (19,
in the example below).
results with the table increments starting at a numeric. E.g.,
Table 19-1
when in fact we want the table to be:
Table B-19
For correct chapter numbering in the paragraph's autonumbering
format, use the <$chapnum> building block, and also set chapter-based
numbering from Format > Numbering for files selected in the book
window (book window settings override settings made in the individual
files, unless "read from file" is chosen in the book window):
I'm probably missing one small setting or something, but I'm a tad it
baffled. Do I not have my pagination set correctly, or am I doing one of
the autonumbering formats wrong?
In the book window:
* Select the first appendix file, and set Format > Numbering >
Chapter to restart from 1, and the format to Alphanumeric, so it
becomes "A".
* Select the following appendix files and set Format > Numbering >
Chapter to Continue from previous file, so they become "B," etc.
The <$chapnum> building block in a paragraph autonumbering format
will display 1, 2,...etc, for numeric chapter numbers, and A,
B,...etc for alphanumeric chapter numbers.
What you are missing is the relationship between the autonumbering
building blocks in the paragraph formats, and the chapter- or
pararagraph-based numbering choices in the book's Format > Numbering
choices.
