Hey Kevin That's a query with a huge, huge body of possible responses. I'm thinking of my favourite super 8 film (Guy Maddin's "Brand Upon The Brain!"), but then also of people who are really situated around Super 8 like John Porter, or about "Our Nixon," which was compiled recently out of archival Super 8 that was shot by some of the titular president's top aides, and then to innovative approaches to the small gauge like the widescreen UltraPan8, which while not "Super 8" per se, may still be of great interest to your workshop participants.
As you can see, responding to such a questions can get somewhat rambly (at least for me). Are you looking for artists who have used the format in a particular way? Are you more interested in experimental/avant garde examples (as opposed to, say, a lot of Oliver Stone films)? If not, that's fine, just thought I'd see if I could narrow it down in my own head! There are also a great many workshops and festivals concerned with super 8. One Take Super 8 and straight 8 come to mind, although I'm sure there are more (these, and others as well, are centred on the conceit that the films produced must be edited in camera).
