  not quite understand this... 

  do you mean one should use "shutdown -r now" or Ctrl-Alt-Del
  instead of "reboot" right after make world and kernel?

  I don't know, it's there.     :)

  try man reboot, it gives me lots.  no it's not alias for any other
  commands.
