K3b certainly works to burn CDs and DVDs under FreeBSD. I have used it many times on several burners. Of course you need to kldload atapicam for that. What does not work on any of my burners is burncd. By the way if you want to copy 8 Gigs DVD on 4 Gigs DVD, i can recommend you k9copy, which is fantastic.
