He will get stuck because there is no button to klick anyway. > > > He's probably constantly looking > > > for some kind of "Start" button to shutdown. ;-) > > Next you will ask me to add a Start menu and explorer > > the newbie cannot type DIR or ARKANOID any more ;-) > No, because FreeDOS already prints "use HELP". But it doesn't > mention "halt" or "reboot". Forwarding to Fritz. Maybe he should mention it on the front page of HTMLHELP :-). That would also make sense because you cannot print a whole story (about what DOS is and how you can use DOS) inside your autoexec... > > > What's why I vote for printing "FreeDOS <distro version>" > Just hard-code it. ;-) Into freedosdistro.com?? No I really suggest doing ALIAS VER=fdver where fdver is a BAT file and not something hardcoded into a kernel or a command.com which have nothing to do with what distro you use. For example /proc/version and uname -a also tend to NOT show a distro name while things like there are tools like lsb_release which are specifically made to describe the distro and not the kernel or shell. [doing "SET foo=bar " to set a value to "bar "] > This also works on the command line and so that's a bug Try which versions are affected - FreeCOM 0.82pl3 or 0.84? File a bug report. If config.sys is also affected, let me know. I think stripping trailing spaces can be useful but make sure to check when and where MS DOS does it (not Win9x DOS). Because I remember some people also liked the ability to use trailing spaces in "echo ... " and "set foo=... " style.
