I don't like it either, to me it looks like a "light" or empty BIOS with so few
options that it's almost useless. I don't even understand why it has been
created yet. I regret the old BIOS with tenth of options where we could
customise even the fan speed and processor. But is it possible to get rid of
UEFI and get back to a real BIOS ? If possible it must be tricky and unsafe...
and I don't talk about warranty.
How may I prove if/that the boot issue really comes from the UEFI/BIOS itself
and not FreeDOS to force Asus take care of it ?

To add to this,I personally don't like UEFI.UEFI may be more eye appealing, with
changeable themes, but it doesn't really interact with hardware as much as it
should. It is more geared for software.BIOS,even though it is made of mostly
ASCII characters,it interacts with the hardware.I have AwardStation for BIOS( I
think by legacy,I'm not to sure),and it does what I need it to.Sometimes BIOS
has a mouse. But who cares?THe problem with many older bootable media is that
UEFI doesn't work to well with hardware.Yes,it does interact with some of the
DEFAULT hardware,but not new hardware.

Asus sold his shit and got the money, they don't care about proving anything,
it's our duty, their stupid customers, to prove they are lying... if only the
problem happened when trying to boot from ODD, we could think it may be related
to FreeDOS, but no, it happens when trying to avoid it and boot HDD !
Asus does ignore for sure how their own products work, their technical
"support" is totally ignorant and I even had to teach them what boot options
mean, what PXE is used for and how to use a LiveCD... they never heard that
word by the way...

If ASUS is trying to blame FreeDOS for something, why not prove it?I think they
are just ignoring their OWN bios faults.I never had a problem booting into
FreeDOS with my bios (AwardStation BIOS).Yes,a disk may be formatted wrong, but
that doesn't affect BIOS at all.

Please see previous replies from others on this list. Unless you have a disk,
real or virtual in the drive there is no way FreeDOS could directly cause the
failure. If there is a disk involved, then there could be incompatibilities
but this is the first report of them I recall seeing. Additional information
is needed to determine where in the boot process the failure occurs and which
component is involved, ie way disk fdisk/formatted, or maybe boot sector on
virtual image, and then is it floppy, hd, CD boot code, ...
To answer your second question, no we are not working to fix it. However, if
it is a problem with FreeDOS and something we can reasonably fix or work
around, then it may be fixed if we get more information. As they seem to know
the cause, at minimum a bug report would be nice, preferably with details of
what point and how FreeDOS is involved in the booting.
