Although I have not confirmed this by testing (too painful), I have the
impression that the kind of file system error mentioned in my previous
message typically happens after copy or delete operations involving a rather
large number of files, say, a few hundred.

That was the case when I first reported the problem a couple of years ago,
when I was installing FreeDOS to two laptops by copying hundreds of files
over a parallel cable with FileMaven, or copying a single compressed file
and then decompressing it. It was also the case yesterday, when the errors
appeared after about 200 files were deleted via a batch file.
