Hey neat.  I used Ontrack Disk Manager back in the eighties.

On DOS this is a normal limitation.

There a program "Ontrack Disk Manager" that help you to format big
      partitions.

You can left 1 or 2 partitions for DOS (8 Gb each) and the
      remaining disk you 
can use it with another operating system.
