I bought the 4.02 version I have back in the '90s when it came out. I haven't
actually used it in nearly as long. However, it interfaces with Quattro Pro,
which
I still use, in OS/2 fullscreen DOS SVGA text mode 800x600, which runs QPro
24/7.
I start it from an OS/2 .BAT file last written in 19990109 containing:
@echo off
set DPMIMEM=MAXMEM 6000
C:
cd \QPRO\X
:E:
:cd \WKV\FILMS
set
ub
pause
paradox -space -qpro [AUTO_PDX.WQ! /D123X.RF /e512]
:pause
exit
ub is C:\BIN\UB.COM, which was derived from utility UNBLACK.COM in book
"Programmer's Problem Solver" by Robert Jourdin, on page 155. It checks for grey
on black attribute at cursor, and, if found, changes whole screen to attribute
at
offset 014Fh, which is grey on blue until you patch it to something else with
DEBUG.
AUTO_PDX.WQ! is a small spreadsheet of macros.
123X.RF is 7,458 bytes in C:QPRO\X\123X.RF, but what it actually does I don't
remember more than .RF signifies resource file.
What version of QPro I have I don't know to determine for sure without hunting
down the manuals. Its 1-2-3 menus I use have no Help > About or anything like
it I
can see, and nothing in F1 help. Its files are all 1997-01-01 05:56 time-stamped
with subdirs time-stamped 19981015, suggesting QPro version 5.56, as the PDX
binaries are mostly time-stamped 19930427 04:02.
set DPMIMEM=MAXMEM 6000 may be a key to solving the current run problem. ISTR
Borland sticking to a less well embraced high memory handling method out of two
available choices, neither of which I remember any details about, much less
their
driver names. Before OS/2, I was using DesqView with QEMM. I remember several
orders of magnitude of QPro improvement in disk I/O on switch to OS/2.
