Honestly, what I like with freesbie and the light and very good preconfigured wms !! I don't want something bloated as gnome or kde. And there's not enough space to waste. So I really like the base as right now.
As for the apps, BMP with several plugins should allow to get rid of xmms and all gtk1 deps.
We love bmp, but we used xmms because of xfce xmms plugins: we don't know any xfce plugin for bmp and we haven't seen if we can hack xfce-xmms-plugins to user bmp instead of xmms: we'll let you know :)

As for openoffice, I'd love the latest beta of 2.0. The last of I tried works very fine for me. Maybe get rid of lynx and use links or w3m instead.
Ohh something important : I want the latest inkscape (which is at last available for freebsd) ;))
Yes, we know (and use) OOo and inkscape and we hope to find/build Oo 2-beta package linked against gtk2 (we found only gtk1 version).

We all are vi/vim/givm fans and we included emacs only because of its
glory, fame and fans out there.
I don't remember if xemacs was present in freesbie 1.1, but i think yes.
