We've explored the theoretical limits of HF DV which are around -13dB 
SNR in a 3000Hz noise BW:

So, SSB can be improved upon - the problem is one of engineering rather 
than any fundamental limit.

Along the way there will be much "Research and Disappointment".  But it 
wouldn't be an interesting problem if it was easy.
