The acquisition code appears to be using +/- 40 Hz for course tuning.
Since it starts at -40 Hz and search up, it might be
better to always tune a little high (putting the center a little low).
The 40 Hz giving it a +/- 20 Hz window at each step.

But then it uses a fine tuning during each of these 40 Hz segments,
which uses 2400 samples while out of sync.

I guess, if you were 40 Hz low on your centering, then it would take
6800 (2400 * 3) samples before it could find sync,
as the center is way over on the right somewhere. But if you were 40
Hz high, you'd find sync on the first fine tuning.

Maybe it needs a 4-core CPU and three threads for sync in parallel?
