The idea of using the rel-1 branch to integrate and test 2.0 code is 
great but maybe that could be a 1.9 release? At the moment the newly 
created 1.7 branch has a lot of work on it that would make a great 
stable 1.8 release and 1.9 seems like the logical choice to signify a 
development branch that may integrate 2.0 code. Just seems like a nice 
clean way to progress.
