The key is having the signal which tells you the PC is
powerd up, there's got to be such a pin somewhere on
the mobo.

It's a loooong time since I've dabbled in such areas but I've had a hunt around today and found the following:


It seems there is a slightly more intelligent "build yourself" IR dongle which supports this sort of thing, in fact it will support:

- Wake-on-LAN
- Wake-on-Modem
- Wake-on-Power-button (well duh!)

Now there is an LIRC driver for this (experimental)

This seems quite an elegant solution, I know it's another microcontroller based solution, but it is possible to buy it assembled and doesn't seem to involve any guesswork.

Now if I can just finish installing the bathroom maybe I can convince my wife we NEED one of these :-)
